This was our first day so we spoilt ourselves or acclimatised or both.
The path took us straight up the mountain for a 700m ascent to Col de Voza ( a couple of hotels(closed for summer) in a saddle of the main ridge).
This sounded like hard work so we took the cable car instead. From the ridge it was all downhill. We walked for about two hours through pine forest then came across our first small village. Bionnassay 1314m offered a cafe and about twenty houses. We took the cafe for a cold drink and a break from downhill.
Leaving Bionnassay we walked steeply down into a lush ravine and across the first of three glacial rivers. These were very fast flowing large creeks of white water. The next three villages had no food places and so we walked on to our destination, Les Contamines 1167m before stopping at 2 for lunch.
